"Together, you and I could be so much, rule so much. We would be superior!"
-Venom (symbiote), Superior
The Venom symbiote (also known as the V-252 Symbiote) is an alien life-form known as a symbiote in Marvel's Spider-Man. While it's origins are only briefly touched upon in Marvel's Spider-Man, it's true origin was revealed in the web video The Secret History of Venom.
The episodes "Back in The New York Groove" and "Drive My Carnage" of Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout also featured the Venom symbiote alongside Spider-Man as guest characters, helping the Guardians defeat a Carnage symbiote powered Thanos.
In the third season, the Venom symbiote leads a symbiote invasion against Earth that affects not only Spider-Man and the Web-Warriors, but the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy as well. In Web of Venom, Venom was believed to have been dead during the entire symbiote invasion, but it was revealed that he survives as a small sample of himself and rejuvenated within Max Modell's bloodstream until he was strong enough reform again.
In Maximum Venom, Venom was destroyed along with his sisters and any other survivng symbiotes after Max Modell regained mental control over Venom and destroyed the Symbiote Seed.
Appearance
Initially, the symbiote took on the form of a black semi-solid liquid. When morphed over Spider-Man, it took the form of a black bodysuit with white markings at the soles of the feet, on the top of the wrists, and a large spider emblem on the front and back of his torso.
After bonding with Flash Thompson and later Eddie Brock, Venom took on a more bulky appearance with jagged teeth and a sinister grin. He has a long, slivering tongue and sharp white claws.
Personality
The Venom symbiote appears to be very possessive of its hosts, always putting up a fight to stay bonded to them no matter how much pain is being inflicted upon it. Though if he considers them weak, he'll discard them with no remorse.
It also very vengeful, for after it displayed the ability to move and communicate without a host its goal was to make Peter Parker (and eventually Flash Thompson) pay for abandoning it.
History
The Venom symbiote was created from the remains of a dead Klyntar sister to be the perfect warrior that would covered the universe in darkness, helping his people to conquer planets, moons and every in their way, evolving and perfecting his abilities.
Years later the symbiote was founded in a meteorite by the Space Administration in a forest outside of New York and donated to Horizon High.[1] Max Modell and his students experimented on the creature, hoping to make it a new element on the periodic table. One student, Peter Parker, caught the symbiotes attention, specifically his alter ego Spider-Man. During Spider-Man's fight against Sandgirl, the Venom came to Spider-Man's aid and saved him from being suffocated by Sandgirl's attack.
Spider-Man continued to wear Venom as a costume until he realized the symbiote was affecting his personality. He was able to remove the symbiote thanks to Norman Osborn's resources at Oscorp. Later on Spider-Man would have to rely upon Venom's power again to aid Iron Man in defeating Ghost and The Guardians of the Galaxy in defeating Thanos and his Carnage symbiote.
Relationships
Symbiote Sisters
The Symbiote Sisters (Scream, Scorn, and Mania) created Venom from the remains of their fallen sister All-Black. Because of this Venom is completely loyal to his elder symbiotes and carried out their plan to spread their kind throughout the galaxy.
Peter Parker/Spider-Man
While being in Peter's presence, Venom grew attached to him and did everything in his power to bond with Peter. Despite everything Peter has gone through to get rid of the symbiote, it still considers Peter the perfect host.
Though, during the events of season 3, Venom's only goal was to make Peter pay for interfering with his plans by bring his fellow symbiotes to Earth and make it another symbiote home world. When that failed, he planned to destroy the Earth with the Symbiote Sisters.
Eddie Brock
While the two shared a strong hatred of Spider-Man, it appears that it was Eddie who cared for Venom more than it cared for him. Venom abandoned Eddie at the Space Administration to reclaim Spider-Man as his host, claiming the wallcrawler to be superior to Eddie Brock.

Venom would get his revenge of Max for experimenting on him throughout the events of Maximum Venom, having been using Max's body in the form of a parasitic relationship to heal himself after his battle with Spider-Man in Web of Venom reduced his body into a small mass. In Maximum Venom, Venom used Max's intelligence to build a portal that connected Earth to the symbiote planet Klyntar. Then Venom proceed to keep Max as his host in order to summon the World Killer at the orders of Scream and to hurt Spider-Man emotionally.
Later on, aboard the World Killer, Max was able to fight off Venom's control thanks to Peter's encouraging words about how his uncle and aunt made him a hero, and not being Spider-Man. Together with Peter, Max used Venom's power to weaken the World Killer and destroy the symbiote seed, ending the threat of the symbiotes once and for all.
