Horizon High, also known Horizon High School or just Horizon, is a high school for students with a genius-level intellect. More specifically, Horizon High is a STEM school that bases its curriculum on educating students in four specific subjects: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Being a STEM school is why Horizon's students are allowed to create their own inventions, for STEM is focused on stimulating the brain and giving it a free reign to create, rather than simply replicate what is already known to the world.[1]
In Web of Venom, the school was most likely handed over to Curt Connors after he revealed that Max Modell was secretly working on the V-252 symbiote, and Max lost his laboratory as a result.
In Generations, after revealing that it was Norman Osborn's plan to have Max Modell removed from the school so he could use Max's research on the Synthetic-Symbiote to make himself more powerful, Peter, Miles, Anya, and Gwen were able to get Max his job back as principal of Horizon.
However, the school would end up destroyed during the battle against Venom, the Symbiote Sisters, and the World Killer in Maximum Venom (Episode). Peter promised Max that he would help him rebuild the school, and that he knew everyone else would too. However, Max wanted to leave Horizon in the past, remembering Peter's words and saying that they should find other ways to continue Horizon's spirit.

Horizon High is not only a high school, but also a research facility. The outside of the school is a huge campus similar to that of a college, and the inside is no different. Students also have their own individual labs to work on personal projects for school and themselves.

- Horizon High is based on Horizon Labs from the Marvel Comics.
- Likewise, a location called Horizon University in the Marvel Comics was inspired by Horizon High from the series.
- If looking at the various background characters as individuals, many students from Midtown High transferred to Horizon alongside Peter during season 1 and season 2.
- It's possible that Horizon is located in the Upper West Side section of Manhattan, given that it was revealed to be near New York's Central Park in Drive My Carnage.
- The school has a baseball team called the Horizon High Circuit Breakers.
- Peter was unaware of this because he has never read the school's brochure (which he has also never heard of).
- Mary Jane considers the school "weird" and "a mess" after finding out about it's history with supervillain attacks.
- Ever since the series premiered, Horizon High has been the subject of criticism with long-time Spider-Man fans claiming that Peter going to a school where everyone is a genius has ruined the original themes of the Spider-Man brand such as Peter's everyman quality, that the supporting cast lacks distinct personalities and backgrounds, and because it feels like the entire show revolves around the school.
- Most fans who have been known to say this fail to realize that while the show is for anyone who is a fan of Spider-Man, that it's primary audience are those who have never heard of Spider-Man before and will be introduced to the character for the first time.
- Also, many fans have actually claimed to have only watched the first two episodes of each season or the origin shorts which isn't enough to judge the quality of an entire series.
