Marvel's Spider-Man Animated Series Wiki

Curtis "Curt" Connors is a character in Marvel's Spider-Man who appeared in The Rise of Doctor Octopus Part Two. Norman Osborn forced him to become the Lizard in exchange for the regrowth of his missing arm. In Maximum Venom, Connors is responsible for the venom symbiote being unleashed on the world again after trying to expose Max Modell's continued work on it for an unknown client. Unfortunately in Spider-Man Unmasked, after figuring out Peter Parker was Spider-Man, Connors was successful in getting Max Modell removed from Horizon High and is now the headmaster and owner of the school, that is until he was exposed as Norman's co-conspirator, leading the latter to be reinstated.

Appearance

Physical appearance

Connors is a forty year old man with blonde hair, glasses, and a five-o-clock shadow. He is always seen wearing a lab coat in his appearances. In Maximum Venom, Connors uses a prosthetic arm in place of his real one.

As the Lizard, Connors becomes a humanoid lizard and his lab coat is torn upon the transformation. When transforming even further into a kaju-size lizard he loses his lab coat and pants.

As Venom, Connors initially looks similar to himself, but with the venom symbiote covering his body. Later on, he briefly takes on venom's original form as the symbiote prepares to discard Connors.

Personality

Doctor Connors will do anything to get his arm to grow back. That includes allowing himself to be a test subject to Norman Osborn.

In Maximum Venom, Connors reveals a sinister and conniving side, having applied for a job at Horizon only to expose Max Modell's work on the V-252 symbiote for Norman Osborn.

History

Relationships

Norman Osborn

Like many others under Norman's employ, Connors was taken advantage of by Norman. Norman promised Connors a formula that would regrow his arm only if he continued to become the lizard in order for Norman to manipulate Otto Octavius into joining Oscorp.

In Generations, it was revealed that Connors was working for Norman Osborn ever since Max Modell gave him a job at Horizon High. Norman promised Connors that he would give him a cure for what the lizard formula has done to his body, however, like Norman has always done in the past he lied to Connor's in order to make him his minion. Connor's transformed into the Lizard and retaliated, attacking Osborn before escaping into the city.

Peter Parker/Spider-Man

During The Rise of Doctor Octopus Part Two, Connors never interacted with Spider-Man, but was seen accepting a coat after Spider-Man cured him of his Lizard transformation.

A year later in Vengeance of Venom, Connors is a new instructor at Horizon High who Peter respected until Connor's unintentionally released the V-252 symbiote in an attempt to get Max Modell kicked out of Horizon High. In Spider-Man Unmasked, Connors figured out that Peter was Spider-Man from eavesdropping on a conversation between Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and Anya Corazon; having made an educated guess from Miles Morales mistakingly referring to both Peter and Spider-Man in the same conversation. With this knowledge, Connors used it as leeway as to why Max Modell should no longer be allowed to be the headmaster of Horizon High.

In Spider-Man Unmasked, Connor's revealed that he figured out Peter's secret identity as Spider-Man and outted him to not only Gwen and Anya, but the Board of Education in order to ruin Spider-Man's credibility in defending Max's position at Horizon High.

Max Modell

Some time in between the conclusion of season 2 and the beginning of season 3 Max offered Connors a job as an instructor at Horizon High. However, it was part of a plan by Connors to expose Max's continued work on the V-252 symbiote for Norman Osborn and get Modell kicked out of Horizon. While this really for Norman to gain control of Horizon, Connors was ony doing this to get a cure for a disease caused by his lizard transformation.

Venom

The Venom symbiote merely used Connors as a host body to escape Horizon and fight Spider-Man.

Grady Scraps

Despite his real goal at Horizon, Connors was kind to Grady and looked forward to having him as a student. Though, Connors did use Grady to cover up himself as the one who made Technovore run rapid throughout the school.

Chameleon

Connor's gave Chameleon information on Anya Corazon in order for the supervillain to impersonate her sister, Maria Corazon.

Trivia

  • Doctor Connors's design in this series appears to be based on his actor from The Amazing Spider-Man film series, Rhys Ifans. Further proof is that this version of Connors also works for Oscorp.
  • This series marks the third time Connors has involvement with Oscorp, following Spider-Man: The New Animated Series and The Amazing Spider-Man film.
  • The Lizard's giant form is a reference to an issue of the Spidey Super Stories.
  • Maximum Venom will be the first time Connors becomes infected by a symbiote and becomes another one of Venom's hosts.
  • Connors is voiced by Yuri Lowenthal, who has also voiced Spider-Man in various media, most notably in the unrelated Marvel's Spider-Man video game for PlayStation 4.
  • This is one of the few times where Connors appears to be a pure villain.
    • Many fans have noted that this was a huge change in his personality from Season 1. However, this matches with his portrayal during the Big Time story arc in the Amazing Spider-Man comics. The only difference being is that Connor's Lizard personality was manipulating him to be evil.
    • The only other time Connors was a villain is in Marvel Action: Spider-Man, but only for the A New Beginning story arc.
  • It is revealed in Generations that Connor's is suffering a decease from Norman forcing him to become the Lizard multiple times. Norman promised Connor's a cure to the affects, but, as always, lied in order to get Connor's to work for him.
